How I started writing crochet patterns

Two years since the beginning of 2 Avenue! And to celebrate that, I've decided to start something I wanted to do at the very very beginning : A blog. A place where I can talk about everything a bit more in details.

I've done a little recap week on Instagram last year for the first anniversary and it was so much fun, I've decided to repeat the same this year.

Looking back at everything that happened in the past year, it's clear to me that the biggest evolution of 2 Avenue is the moment I started writing patterns. It really changed everything.

It wasn't planned. It's a big surprise, even for me. I don't really enjoy following a pattern. Every time I've tried to follow one I got bored or at half way through I tried to convince myself I was able to do the project on my own without following the instructions. So to me, it was out of questions that I would one day write patterns.

... Until Fall 2023. I usually crochet things that I need in my everyday life. At this time, my oven mitts at home were a disaster. Of course, first thing that came to my mind was : well, I think I could make them myself. So I did. I rarely take notes while I'm in the creation process because it can stop my flow sometimes, but for this project, because it was a pair, I needed to make sure the second mitt would be the same. So I did take some notes. I've made multiple attempts, had 15 versions of notes, and at some point, they were finally perfect. Exactly like I imagined them in my dreams. I was very happy with the result and I shared some images with you on Instagram.

Lots of you asked for the pattern. I was normally very protective of my designs, but somehow with these oven mitts, I felt very detached and the idea of people from around the world making their own oven mitts based on my design appeared fun to me. In addition to that, I already had so many notes of the process, it was almost like if it was done yet.

I've made the pattern, found an amazing tester team to make sure it was easy to follow for everyone and on a Friday afternoon of November, I launched it.

I went out with a friend that night, so I was away from my phone for a while. After a couple of hours, I looked at my phone and there was a ton of order notifications. It was unreal, and it kept going. It was a lot of emotions all at once. I never expected such a positive answer. I thought I was dreaming. Couldn't believe my favorite hobby paid my bills that month. I had so much fun looking at where the orders were coming from (still today my favorite thing to check when I receive an order notification). People from Japan or Australia were crocheting my designs on the other side of the planet. Unbelievable. That moment was a big boost of motivation and the push I needed to continue writing patterns in the future.

These oven mitts will always have this special place in the history of 2 Avenue.

Really want to thank you for supporting my art. I'm really blessed and you have no idea how positively you changed my life. Thank you thank you thank you.

xx
